Kayaking on Lake Powell

Profitable kayaking

Who says kayaking can't be profitable?   Well, yesterday, after a great kayak trip to a distant beach, a friend and I began beachcombing.  We found many interesting and some even usuable, items.  Lots of boat fenders, lines, battery box, water bottles, balls (golf, whiffle, tennis, water), trash cans, gloves (they were matching gloves, we thought - until we examined them closer and found that they were both for the left hand - LOL), a complete pair of baby shoes in great condition, bandana, letherman case (nearly new), and then lots of single shoes or sandals, broken things, silverware, etc.  Kayaking back was a bit exciting, however, because we stayed out until nearly sunset and hurried back to the marina and just before we entered the wakeless area a boat was headed right for us.  We knew the sun was in the driver's eyes and weren't sure if he could see us.  He probably wasn't thinking about meeting kayakers on the lake at this time of the year and we just sort of thought, 'Hope he sees us'.  Nothing much we could do.  Luckily, he did see us and slowed down to let us know that he did.  Thank you, Shea!

kayaking in the winter

Wow!  You would not believe how still and beautiful the lake was yesterday.  I kayaked across the bay and it was so still that I felt as though I was floating.  Lake Powell in the winter is even more beautiful than the summer.  Once I reached the other side of the bay (about 20 minutes of kayaking), I hopped out and walked along the shore for a while.  The water is receding this time of the year and you can find all kinds of goodies left on the shore.  I found several boat fenders, all in good condition.  I found swim toys, a life jacket, balls of all kinds and of course, trash.  I think I will go back today.  There was one other kayaker on the lake today, actually, 2.  They were in a tandem kayak.  Did not see another boat the whole time I was out and that was nearly all day.  Had the lake to myself.  Camping would be appealing tonight.

First blog for kayaking on Lake Powell with Maggie

Hi fellow kayakers and want-to-be kayakers.

This is my first blogging attempt, so please bear with me.

Looking out the window it appears cold and rainy outside.  Not a good day to kayak, but who knows.  Sometimes, the very best days are the ones that look like this.  There isn't any wind out there, so it might be a great day.

Ok, talked myself into it................I'm going kayaking this afternoon.  It will be warmer then........right now it is only 34 degrees.
