New year for kayaking

kayaking in the winter

Wow!  You would not believe how still and beautiful the lake was yesterday.  I kayaked across the bay and it was so still that I felt as though I was floating.  Lake Powell in the winter is even more beautiful than the summer.  Once I reached the other side of the bay (about 20 minutes of kayaking), I hopped out and walked along the shore for a while.  The water is receding this time of the year and you can find all kinds of goodies left on the shore.  I found several boat fenders, all in good condition.  I found swim toys, a life jacket, balls of all kinds and of course, trash.  I think I will go back today.  There was one other kayaker on the lake today, actually, 2.  They were in a tandem kayak.  Did not see another boat the whole time I was out and that was nearly all day.  Had the lake to myself.  Camping would be appealing tonight.

Wow Maggie! It sounds beautiful on the lake. I keep thinking about the trip I was on with you in October and reading your blog makes me look forward to coming back. I'm hoping to come again this June, maybe with my kids. Take care, Michael.

Michael, I know your kids would love it at Lake Powell. When I am away from Lake Powell, as I am right now, I keep comparing every place else with it and nothing catches my eye as much. We had a great time last year, didn't we? It is a wonderful place full of 'unreality'. I still go around saying, "I can't believe this place is real!"
